    Wren2009 posted a photo:

    Part of a whole

A human being is a part of a whole, called by us 'universe', a part limited in time and space. He experiences himself, his thoughts and feelings as something separated from the rest... a kind of optical delusion of his consciousness. This delusion is a kind of prison for us, restricting us to our personal desires and to affection for a few persons nearest to us. Our task must be to free ourselves from this prison by widening our circle of compassion to embrace all living creatures and the whole of nature in its beauty.

    MIPtalk - Episode 15 - Yehuda Berg

This week’s guest is Yehuda Berg, co-director of the Kabbalah Centre, a world wide spiritual organization that teaches principles of Jewish mysticism. Berg recalls how as a child he, his brother Michael and his parents Philip and Karen would travel across the country in an old station wagon organizing groups for the study of Kabbalah which Philip introduced to the US after immersing himself in it during his time in Israel.

Although the center has garnered its share of controversy the study of Kabbalah continues to grow and has been adopted by many notable celebrities including Madonna, Ashton Kutcher and many others.

To learn more about Kabbalah and how a stranger high on drugs taught Yehuda’s father Rabbi Philip Berg an important lesson about acceptance check out the latest episode of MIPtalk.

1247594856|%e %b %Y, %H:%M %Z|agohover
  • An essay by Einstein: the world as I see it / I have never looked upon ease and happiness as ends in themselves -- this critical basis I call the ideal of a pigsty. The ideals that have lighted my way, and time after time have given me new courage to face life cheerfully, have been Kindness, Beauty, and Truth. Without the sense of kinship with men of like mind, without the occupation with the objective world, the eternally unattainable in the field of art and scientific endeavors, life would have seemed empty to me. The trite objects of human efforts -- possessions, outward success, luxury -- have always seemed to me contemptible. / 1245813526|%e %b %Y, %H:%M %Z|agohover
  • Einstein's faith (April 2007) / The host tried to silence him by invoking the fact that even Einstein harbored religious beliefs. "It isn't possible!" the skeptical guest said, turning to Einstein to ask if he was, in fact, religious. "Yes, you can call it that," Einstein replied calmly. "Try and penetrate with our limited means the secrets of nature and you will find that, behind all the discernible laws and connections, there remains something subtle, intangible and inexplicable. Veneration for this force beyond anything that we can comprehend is my religion. To that extent I am, in fact, religious." / 1243207705|%e %b %Y, %H:%M %Z|agohover
  • The night I met Einstein (by Jerome Weidman) / After a while, becoming aware that the people around me were applauding, I concluded it was safe to unplug my ears. At once I heard a gentle but surprisingly penetrating voice on my right. “You are fond of Bach?” the voice said. I knew as much about Bach as I know about nuclear fission. But I did know one of the most famous faces in the world, with the renowned shock of untidy white hair and the ever-present pipe between the teeth. I was sitting next to Albert Einstein. / 1241363988|%e %b %Y, %H:%M %Z|agohover
  • Albert Einstein: 130th birthday (March 2009) / As everyone knows, 1905 was his miraculous year. All the big discoveries actually appeared within two months or so. Relativity revolutionized our understanding of space and time. The photoelectric effect theory earned him a Nobel prize and meant a big leap towards the birth of quantum theory. His theory of the Brownian motion has eliminated all sensible critics of the atomic hypothesis. / 1237446930|%e %b %Y, %H:%M %Z|agohover
